There are several reasons for this. The first and most important is that it is the best way for us to ensure that your dog remains safe while they are in our care. Also, the City of Kingston has no official off-leash areas. All dogs are required to be on-leash when being walked in Kingston.
My pet is my pride and joy. What special precautions do you take to ensure that he is safe and secure when he is with you?
Merry PAWppins does several things to add to the superior care and handling provided by our caregivers.
All of our staff members are trained in pet first aid, should the unforseen happen.
Our vehicles contain first aid kits.
Each customer (four-legged that is) has a picture and information sheet which includes information such as veterinarian of choice, on hand during walks/visits. Should something happen such as an injury requiring a veterinary visit, or should your pet some how get away from us, we have a photo to show during the frantic search. (Please note, neither of these situations have ever happened nor do we expect them to, but we want to be prepared to give the best possible care in the worst possible cases!)
Pets are transported in a heated/air conditioned vehicle, secured either in a crate or in a specially designed safety harness.
What credentials do your pet care professionals have?
In addition to being fully insured and trained in first aid, we are members of the Professional Dog Walkers Association, the Kingston Humane Society, and have an associate membership with the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers. We ofcourse follow the professional ethics and code of conducts of all of our member organizations.
How will I, and my neighbours (who are kind enough to keep watch over my house) know that it is you who is coming and going from my home?
Merry PAWppins staff all wear easily identifiable uniforms - green shirt with our name and logo, and khaki pants or shorts (and during those hot summer months, a sort of silly looking hat).
Okay, but I wouldn't want people seeing you coming and going to know that I'm not home. What about that?
Our vehicles are unmarked, thereby not advertising the fact that we are a pet care company, which ofcourse is most often used when the usual people/family is not at home. If you especially request that we not wear uniforms when visiting your pet, that can be arranged.
When I get home, how do I even know for sure that you were there?
At the end of every walk or visit, we write a short note to let you know when we were there, how the visit or walk went, and to pass on any other information we think you might like to know. If you have any other questions when you get home, please don't hesitate to contact us.
I have a ferret. Do you take care of pets other than cats and dogs?
We will take care most creatures, big or small. Just contact us and we will work out with you how to best take care of your furry, feathered, or scaled pet.
I live outside of Kingston. Do you travel outside of the city of Kingston?
Yes, we do service certain areas outside of Kingston. Depending on where you are located, there may be an extra charge though. Call us to find out more.
My dog tears up the house when I leave her alone. Can you help?
Absolutely. A tired dog is a good dog (usually). By increasing the level of exercise your dog gets, destruction around the house can be lessened. The increased socialization can also help to boost your dog's level of confidence, in turn hopefully reducing the anxiety that is created when he/she is left at home alone.
My dog needs to be let out when I'm at work to go to the bathroom, but is really old and isn't much of a walker. What can I do?
Merry PAWppins can come by and just let him/her out into your yard if you like. We'll spend the same time with your pet that we would normallly spend walking with him/her, but will gear our visit to his/her likes/dislikes, and abilities.
I don't have a pet, but my insurance company says that if my home is not occupied for more than 48 hours they won't cover me for any losses. Do you perform checks on houses without pets?
Yes we do. We call them home check visits, and include things such as mail retrieval or blind placement, to make the house hopefully looked lived in.
Home check visits sound great. Will you do them and take care of my pet?
Yes. Cat care visits when you are out of town can also include all the services that we provide during home check visits. So not only will we feed and change the litter if need be, but we can also bring in your newspapers etc.
Can you just come by and clip my cat's nails?
Our policy is to meet the needs of all our two and four-legged customers. Since nail trims only take 5-10 minutes, we can do it for the same cost as a small animal visit.
My cat needs eye drops 4 times a day, and since I'm at work I can't give them all to her. Can you come by give her drops?
Yes we can. We can give the medication your pet requires, when you can't be there.
I don't drive anymore, so it's very difficult for me to get my pet to the groomers? Can you take her there, and then pick her up when she's done and bring her home?
No problem. All pets are transported in heated/air conditioned comfort, and in the safety of a crate or a specially designed pet seatbelt.
How does it work if I want to sign up?
Contact us, and we will arrange a convenient time for us to come over and meet with you and your pet. At this time we can go over the services we offer, and of course you and your pet can meet with us to ensure your comfort in trusting us with your beloved pet.
I'm still not sure. There are so many things to think about.
Please feel free to contact us, and ask any questions or discuss any concerns you may have. There are no questions to small, and certainly there are no silly questions.
